Proposed Bonus Day Ride Tumalo SP to Tumalo Falls Loop

So far this ride is not on the schedule as we have run out of days. We might want to keep this one in case Day 1 kicks our bu** and we want an easier day. Either way, I made elevation maps for it.

Proposed Day 5 Ride Tumalo SP to Smith Rocks SP

This ride goes from Tumalo State Park almost to Prineville and then back to Smith Rocks. We would need a pickup at Smith Rocks to either go home or back to camp for one last night.

Proposed Day 4 Ride LaPine SP to Paulina Lake Loop

This day the mountains don't look that bad compared to Day 1! We would need a drop=off and pick up at LaPine State Park.

Proposed Day 3 Ride Elk Lake Cutoff To Sunriver

This is a day we get shuttled to the cutoff to Elk Lake and ride to Sunriver. We would also need a shuttle from Sunriver to Tumalo State Park.

Proposed Day 2 Ride Camp Sherman to Tumalo SP

This second day looks quite a bit easier as it is mostly downhill or flat. (We did all the uphill yesterday!) I made the route go a bit north into Terrabone for added scenery and miles.

Proposed Day 1 Ride Sweet Home to Camp Sherman

This would be starting from somewhere east of Sweet Home because as it stands now we would be riding 35 miles UPHILL with another 17 miles until to crest of the second hill and we haven't even made it to Camp Sherman yet! Not sure if we want that but look at the pictures.

01-06-10 Update: I did some quick math (someone will check I'm sure to see if I got it right) but for the first 25 miles the grade is only .97%. Not too bad. It's the next 10 miles that are going to be a butt burner. I get a 5.7% grade!

ROUTES

We have not really discussed routes this year. I know for financial reasons we shouldn't plan anything too extravagant. There was some talk of doing daily loops out of Corvallis and Vancouver this year with possible camping options within those areas. I have done some VERY preliminary work putting looping routes around the Bend Oregon area with camping at Tumalo State Park. There has been a lot of talk about doing part of Vancouver Island as well. BUT none of these are set in stone. Please post ideas here.

1) loops out of Corvallis (staying at the Gale Home)
2) loops out of Vancouver (staying at the Westerberg Home)
3) Tumalo State Park loops
4) Vancouver Island (requires passports)
5) Other??

Dates

I think it might work best if we put dates that we CAN"T ride. I would like to see if we can have an easier (3-4 days, 30-40 miles per day) ride first, say in late June or early July. Maybe a second ride 5-6 days 40+ miles per day say in early to mid August.

Please comment of dates that WILL NOT work for you!

Opening Post

Hey everyone interested in biking or otherwise participating in some fashion in one or more weeks in the summer of 2009 biking trip(s)! I thought since we all hail from different areas of the state (and Washington) that we could all use this blog to stay informed and to create a ride that best suits our needs for the summer. Below is a list of folks and their e-mails I am sending this link to.

If someone is one this list and doesn't want to be, please let me know and I'll remove them. If there is anyone else that might be interested in being on this list, please pass me their e-mail and I'll send them this link.

I think what we need to figure out first is some dates. I know for some of us the summer is probably already half full! So lets harangue around some ideas and see what pops out. Last several years we ended up doing two different dates. Personally I like that idea of two separate weeks as it's easier on my family commitments and on my work commitments.

Please leave comments on whatever post you want to comment on.
